Year 9 Super Learning Day

21 October 2019

Year 9 spent Super Learning Day following a STEM focus. The year group completed three activities, including an Engineering activity with Tomorrow’s Engineers. The year group completed an Energy Quest which is a free school programme that encourages young people (aged 11-14) to find out all about sustainable energy and associated engineering careers.

Energy Quest, which is funded by Shell, is an interactive STEM workshop packed with hands-on activities, careers information and stories from real engineers working in energy. Students received their own workbook to capture learning as they explored concepts of energy generation, sustainability and technologies.

The students also spent some time with the science department creating and testing engineering projects such as egg launchers and spanning of bridges...a lot of excitement when testing them on the playground! To conclude the day, the year group welcomed Keiran O’Sullivan from Plastic Omnium. Keiran took the time out from his busy schedule to discuss his career and job role as a CAE Structural Analysis Engineer for Intelligent Exterior Systems.

Students particularly enjoyed how the engineering world links to careers within the motor industry and the insight into smart bumpers being produced for cars.
