Back to NewsYear 9 Super Learning Day
Year 9 had a very informative day on mental health this week. We had a theatre production from Loudmouth called “Talking Heads” which looked at mental health in young people; how it starts and the signs to look out for. It was an amazing piece of theatre to watch and very thought-provoking for our pupils. A workshop followed on from the production exploring the issues further with pupils then completing other work on topics such as “Man up”, reframing unhelpful thoughts and filling out a “well-being diary”. They looked at how to improve their emotional wellbeing and were given 5 strategies to look at:
Connect - physically to someone, not just a text. Talk with family, see friends
Be active - try something new, walk, run around and keep well
Learn - learn a new skill or hobby, teach yourself something new or rediscover old interests
Take notice - be curious, look around you, listen, rest and be aware of what you eat
Give - do something nice for a friend or family member. Thank someone and look out for others
The pupils were so mature and understanding during the day and asked lots of amazing questions. We hope this will set them up to be more open about their feelings and be in control of their own personal emotional wellbeing. Well Done year 9!
