Message from the Headteacher

04 February 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

It has been a very busy week here at St Edmund Campion School. Last night we held our year 9 options/parents evening in school which was a huge success. Thank you to all the parents and pupils who came to the event, and I hope you were able to gather the information you need to help your child make their choices. If you do need more information, please do contact Mr Hussey who will be able to answer any questions you may have.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming Loudmouth in to school this week. They performed a powerful drama piece around the mental health of young people which was very well received. Pupils also took part in a workshop which gave them the opportunity to ask questions to the Loudmouth representatives about mental health and how they can spot the signs and who they can go to.

Our year 12s also had their mock interviews this week and as always this was a very useful event for them which was well received. A huge thank you to Gordon Franks and all the employees who came in to help conduct the interviews.

Sadly, I have had to suspend some children this week for a couple of days which is always a disappointing thing to have to do. Please can I ask parents to remind their children of two things which led to the suspensions this week.

• Mobile phones are not allowed out in school and especially in lessons. They will always be confiscated if seen. Unfortunately, I have had to suspend pupils for videoing or taking a picture in a lesson. I am sure you agree that this is absolutely not allowed in school and is not something that any teachers should be subjected to. So please be aware that filming or taking pictures in lessons will lead to suspension.

• Secondly, vaping is absolutely forbidden by anyone on the school site or within the vicinity of the school. Any pupil found to be vaping in school will be suspended and this may become permanent if it becomes a repeated offence. If pupils are found to be in possession of any vaping materials these will be confiscated and a consequence put in place for the pupil.

I must stress that the vast majority of pupils in school are fully understanding of this and conduct themselves impeccably in school. I will be saying a few things in assemblies next week, reminding pupils of the above and ensuring that they understand so that there is no confusion.

Lord Jesus, Kind heart, Through the storms of the day, Guide me to the shore

Lord Jesus, Kind Heart, When darkness comes over me, Give me your light

Lord Jesus, Kind heart, When I am weary with travelling, Let me rest in you Amen

Kind Regards

Mr A. Grant
