Black History Month

15 October 2021

October is Black History Month and pupils have been finding out about black history, culture and heritage in assemblies and tutor time in the past few weeks. Black History Month highlights to pupils positive contemporary black role models and in assembly last week students found out about individuals such as Marcus Rashford and Betty Campbell. It was very encouraging to see that many of our pupils knew about Betty Campbell being the first Welsh black headteacher before the assembly.

In another assembly, pupils learnt about the life of Nelson Mandela and the contribution he made to ending apartheid in South Africa. The history department have produced several resources for tutor time and pupils will have the opportunity to explore and discuss more people and significant events in black history before we break up for half term.

The BBC iPlayer website has many excellent resources about Black History Month and is a great place for your child to continue to research and find out about the topics they are learning in school.
