Gaelic Football Success

17 September 2021

We had a few Campion superstars competing at the All Britain’s Competition with Erin Go Bragh, Gaelic Football, Hurling and Camogie Club in London at the weekend.

Shaun Fitzpatrick in year 7 for the under 11s is a mighty player.  He knocked a few points over the bat and was absolutely fantastic. They played against some top teams from all over the country and were undefeated.

Aiden McElwaine in year 9 played for both under 13s and the under 15s teams showing some grit and determination. Aiden is an exceptional player getting to the quarter finals in the under 15s and reaching a nail-biting final in the under 13s, narrowly missing out on a win in extra time.

Niamh O’ Clery in year 10 in the under 14s girls and what a team! Niamh scored with a cracking header in the quarter finals which aided the girls in getting to the semi-final. The game was very intense, playing one of London’s top teams it was very nip and tuck and the girls were victorious.  The last game had taken its toll and the girls lost out in the final. This was their first appearance and coming second in the country is no mean feat.

Sinead McElwaine and Sinead McCardle, both in yr12, were with the under 16 girls’ team. This team has only recently formed and they played some excellent football and reached a semi-final. Both Sineads are the toughest girls I have seen on the pitch; they give no quarter and are a force to be reckoned with. However, off the pitch these girls are the most well-mannered and polite young ladies you will ever meet. They are both role models in and out of school and it has been a pleasure to have known them since year 7.

Last but not least, Darragh Devlin in year 9 also played, just narrowly missing out in the final.  However, he was swapping one pitch for another; also playing Hurling for the under 14s. Despite being tough matches, Darragh dug deep and with his head held high played some quality hurling and with his team won an All Britain Cup final. A fitting end to the weekend.
