Lessons from Auschwitz

31 January 2020

In celebration of 75 years since the liberation of the concentration camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau, our Sixth Form have been fortunate to become involved with the Holocaust Education Trust's Lessons from Auschwitz project who believe that  'hearing is not like seeing' and work to ensure the lessons from the Holocaust are not forgotten.

Students in the Sixth Form were asked to submit letters of application to explain why they thought they should be considered to take part in the project and the successful students will take part in a  four-part course which explores the universal lessons of the Holocaust and its relevance for today. The Project aims to increase knowledge and understanding of the Holocaust for young people and to clearly highlight what can happen if prejudice and racism become acceptable by taking students to see the camp at Auschwitz and culminating in students sharing their experiences with the wider school community.

I was very pleased to announce on Monday, Holocaust Memorial Day, that Nathanael Lott and Jake Arnold in Year 12 were the successful applicants and I know they will be wonderful ambassadors for our school.
