Message from the Headteacher

17 January 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

On Tuesday we held the second of our Super Learning Days. Pupils undertook a wide variety of activities ranging from trips to Blackwell Court and Oxford to workshops on mental health and entrepreneurship. Year 7 also had their retreat day; it was lovely to see them so engaged and Mass with Father Lennon at the end of the day was a fitting way to conclude the day. Overall it was a fantastic day with so many opportunities for our young people and it was great to see them getting so much out of the day.

Next week is our assessment week for years 7 to 10. Please encourage your children to prepare and revise for these using the strategies they have been taught. The assessments will primarily be based on what they have learnt this year and will test their knowledge and ability to apply their understanding. Curriculum plans are available on the school website.

We will soon be looking to appoint a parent governor to the school. I will send out information as to how you can apply for this very important role on our local governing body in due course. As we approach our academy conversion date we will be looking to ensure that we have a full local governing body for St Edmund Campion School within the St John Paul II Multi Academy.

Finally, a message to year 11 parents: There are approximately 14 weeks until the GCSE exams start in May. These 14 weeks and how your child uses them will have a profound impact on their overall results. It is important that you are encouraging them now to study every night (2 hours minimum!) so that they consolidate and practice their knowledge and understanding to be able to apply them to examinations. Whether they are using past papers, study guides, internet resources (www.mathsgenie.co.uk is excellent for Maths) or GCSE pod please encourage your child to work hard and appreciate the effort they put in.

Sunday’s Gospel from St John celebrates the Baptism of our Lord:

John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
"Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
He is the one of whom I said,
'A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.'
I did not know him,
but the reason why I came baptizing with water
was that he might be made known to Israel."
John testified further, saying,
"I saw the Spirit come down like a dove from heaven
and remain upon him.
I did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
'On whomever you see the Spirit come down and remain,
he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'
Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.

Kind Regards

Mr. A Grant
