Message from the Principal

03 February 2023

Dear Parents/Carers

On Tuesday we held the second of our Super Learning Days and a special thank you to Vice Principal Mrs Quoroll for her, as always, excellent organisation of the day. It really can be a logistical challenge but Mrs Quoroll’s superb organisational skills always shine through and it is wonderful for all our students to experience lots of different things. Year 7 had their retreat day with Mr Oxley, Mr Sorroll and the RE team. The theme of this very special retreat was a piece from Jeremiah 1:5 ‘Before I even formed you in the womb, I knew you.’

Year 8 had a very thought-provoking day looking at how to keep themselves safe especially around the issue of knife crime, something that has been prevalent in the news in recent weeks. Some students had a fantastic opportunity to take part in a virtual reality experience looking at scenarios around knife crime and what choices they would make.

Year 9’s day focussed on careers, with a specific focus on careers through the lens of the NHS and those students in year 10 who didn’t go on the trip had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from different companies to talk about their career experiences. The trip for the year 10 historians involved attending a powerful presentation by a holocaust survivor. Year 11 were privileged to watch the Loudmouth production ‘Working for Marcus’ focussing on child sexual exploitation. Year 12 had their mock careers interviews and it was great to see them dressed so smart in their interview wear and taking them so seriously. Finally, year 13 had a day focussing on money management, great preparation for life after Campion!

Next week we have our pupil review day for years 7, 9 and 10 and we are very much looking forward to seeing you on this day to discuss your child’s progress. It will be particularly important for year 9 as this will be the first opportunity to discuss option choices for year 10 with you. We also have our post 16 parents’ evening on Thursday and again we look forward to meeting year 12 and 13 parents and carers then.

Finally, thank you for your understanding regarding the national day of strike action for NEU members on Wednesday. It is always a difficult choice for teachers to make as to whether to strike or not. The next day is on 1st March and we will let you know our final plans for this day closer to the time. It is during the year 11 and post 16 mock exam week so we will be holding these exams on this day.

I will leave you with these words from St Teresa of Calcutta:

‘Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless’

Kind Regards

Mr A. Grant
