Message from the Headteacher

02 July 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

We have had a wonderful couple of days with our sports days and super learning days. They really have highlighted some exceptional talents within our pupils and it was fantastic to see them enjoying themselves. The inflatables and ice cream van certainly added in some extra fun! For the year 10s this was their first sports day since they were in year 8 and for years 7 and 8 this was their first ever Campion sports day!

For the super learning day all of our pupils experienced a variety of different sessions which included a Catholic Life retreat, an art and well-being workshop, a STEM workshop, an opportunity to research future careers through Unifrog and a hard hitting, yet uplifting assembly from an outside speaker on the dangers of gang violence and youth crime. The sessions were all very well received and thank you to the pupils for taking the workshops seriously.

A big thank you also to all the staff involved in planning and putting on the two events.

We are trying to finalise our plans regarding the start to next academic year. It looks like we may have to lateral flow test pupils again like we did on their return in March which may mean staggering the start to the school year for pupils more so than originally intended. Once we know more information we will let you know. At the moment the plan is for years 7, 11 and post 16 to return on Friday 3rd September and all groups on Monday 6th September. However, this may change depending on any direction from Central Government regarding any lateral flow testing programme. We will need pupils to take their lateral flow tests during the summer holidays prior to their return to school so please ensure you have sufficient test kits to conduct two tests the last week of the holidays.

Apart from a potential testing programme as outlined above we are intending for school to return to normal as much as possible. We will be sending out some information to you regarding the return to school in September. In the meantime, you may be starting to get things ready for September such as buying uniform. Please remember to ensure that the uniform code on our website is followed.

From September we will be having a new catering provider for school. We are very much looking forward to Miquill taking over the food provision for the school (and indeed the majority of schools within the multi academy). In this newsletter you’ll see a flavour of the new menus. More information to follow.

This week we were privileged to join a virtual Mass for the solemnity of SS Peter and Paul. We joined SS Mary and John and SS Peter and Paul Primary Schools for Mass with Father Joe online from SS Peter and Paul church. It was a very reverent occasion and we were very proud of all the pupils taking part.

Good luck to England on Saturday and I will leave you with these words from Paul the Apostle:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Kind regards

Mr A Grant
