Attendance Important Notice

10 January 2020

It is vitally important that your child attends school every day unless they are too ill to attend school.

I acknowledge that the second half of last term was a very difficult one with a large number of pupils being ill and I thank you for your support in getting your child to school during this time. We had to take the unprecedented decision to shut school in order to facilitate a deep clean of the school and to give pupils the chance to get well again.

I am happy to say that looking over the attendance today, it certainly looks as though we are over the worst of the sickness and vomiting bug. Unfortunately, this has had a huge impact on our overall attendance figures for this academic year now. It currently stands at 93.6%. The required figure from the Local Authority that we should be maintaining is 96%.

I am therefore asking for yours and your child’s support in ensuring full attendance for the rest of the academic year, particularly on the last days of a term where attendance seems to dip. EVERY day matters. Also, a reminder about booking appointments out of school time where possible and please do not book holidays in term time. Any time away from school will have a huge impact on your child’s academic success.

If your child’s absence is totally unavoidable then please ensure that you contact school immediately either by phone or by using the attendance app. It is essential that our Attendance Officer Mrs Grealish is made aware of the reason for their absence at the earliest opportunity. Absence line is 0121 675 1701.  If you receive a letter asking for a reason for their absence, please support school in ensuring this is completed and returned promptly in order that the registers can be updated accordingly.

Some parents will be contacted over the next few weeks to discuss attendance concerns and to see if there is any extra support that needs to be put in place.

The relationship between school and home is vitally important to us and we need to work together to ensure the best possible attendance, therefore creating the best possible outcomes for your child.

Any concerns please contact me directly at school on 0121 464 9549

Mrs Fleming
