It is possible by the time you read this Oscar Romero will have become Saint Oscar Romero. He will have been canonised by Pope Francis in Rome on Sunday 14th October.

Many of you will know who he is and the message he preached. At a time of great oppression, he spoke out against the government of the day. He is everything Pope Francis expects of his faithful.

Today I ask his intercession for our school community and families. May we remember that we have been called not to be served but to serve.

While at the diocesan day last Sunday in Coventry I read the following quote from Saint Oscar Romero.

"Each one of you has to be God’s microphone. Each one of you has to be a messenger, a prophet."

God is calling each of us to be his voice, a voice that is not afraid to speak the truth. Saint Romero feared for his life, but that fear didn’t prevent his from preaching the Good News. Please God we will never face such persecution. We should knowingly with Saint Romero on our side be willing to speak out against the injustices in our society, in our community.

This coming week is a very exciting week in school. On Friday we will have a Super Learning Day with students engaged in many different activities. I would like to invite you especially to our Year 7 mass in the Abbey on Friday starting at 1.45. This will be our way to give thanks to God for a wonderful blessed half term.

Please know that during this month of October we have been remembering you and your families in our rosary prayers to Our Lady. Our Lady is our mother and the mother of all humanity.

May God bless us and keep us safe this coming week. I leave you with another quote from Saint Oscar Romero.

"Let us not tire of preaching love; it is the force that will overcome the world. Let us not tire of preaching love. Though we see that waves of violence succeed in drowning the fire of Christian love, love must win out; it is the only thing that can." ~ Oscar Romero
