It is possible by the time you read this Oscar Romero will have become Saint Oscar Romero. He will have been canonised by Pope Francis in Rome on Sunday 14th October. Many of you will know who he is and the message he preached. At a time of great oppression, he spoke out against the government of the day. He is everything Pope Francis expects of his faithful. Today I ask his intercession for our school community and families. May we remember that we have been called not to be served but to serve. Read More

This prayer to Our Lady is one of the most beautifully sung hymns. It appeared on the front page of St Nicholas’ parish newsletter this week. It is a hymn we sing in school every Friday after exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. If you are struggling to translate it is the Hail Holy Queen which is traditionally recited after the rosary. During the month of October, we have been saying a decade of the rosary in the school chapel in a different language each time. Read More

The return of the school football season has meant a busy start to fixtures for the staff running the school sides. However, this has been a generally successful, confidence boosting start for many of the sides. Year 7 In their first ever fixture for St Edmund Campion the year 7 side had the toughest of draws against local power houses Arthur Terry, a tough ask which many of our students have experienced in the past. This week our Sixth Form have helped support our Macmillan coffee afternoon. Many beautiful cakes and buns were donated by both staff and students. To date we have raised almost £400 and it continues to rise. We will update in next week’s newsletter. This is a fabulous sum of money that will go to the great work of the Macmillan nurses and co-workers. In assemblies this week we have been looking at the theme of sacrifice and how each one of us is touched by the sacrifice of others in a very real way. Ss Cosmos and Damien who we celebrated this week sacrificed their lives for their faith. St Vincent de Paul who we celebrate on Friday sacrificed everything to help the poor. Read More

On Monday 10th September, Year 12 took part in the Sixth Form’s annual induction at Woodlands Outdoor Retreat Centre. The day was a wonderful example of the fresh start our students have had, working together to achieve things that they didn’t think possible at the start of the day. They completed an assault course, kayaking, a high ropes course that included some amazing trapeze skills and a number of Spiderman moves and a Vines and Bridges course that took real resilience. This coming week we will celebrate the feast of St Matthew, apostle and evangelist. It is there we find the words of Jesus himself inviting us to continue his work by ‘making disciples of all nations.’ He commands us to bring Good News to all. Here at St Edmund Campion we answer that invitation. Through our vocation and ministry, we ensure that Christ is at the centre of all we do and say. In a world of challenge and uncertainty, we bring reward and reassurance that our God is here. Read More
