    We are all very proud of Damian in Year 13 for been invited to interview at The University of Cambridge last week. Damian is hoping to study Engineering and will find out in the New Year if he has been offered a place. The Engineering course at the University of Cambridge normally lasts four years and leads to two degrees: BA (with Honours) and MEng. The first two years of the course aim to give a broad overview of the subject, covering mechanical and structural engineering, as well as materials, electrical and information engineering. Read More

    Well done to the KS4 Basketball team who continue to make strides to improve their skills. Two weeks ago, they enjoyed a 38-33 win over St John wall in a well contested match, where several individuals were playing their first competitive game for the school.     EPQ At Birmingham City University

    Last Wednesday the Year 12 and 13 EPQ students spent a brilliant afternoon at the BCU's Curzon Library learning key skills to support with the creation of their artefacts and dissertations. We had a tour of the extensive library, study spaces and resources that BCU can offer and spent the rest of the afternoon working on research skills, source types, source analysis and bias.     Every Monday, a group of Year 12 students meet with Mrs Griffiths for Study Skills support. In these sessions we work to identify barriers to success; create a vision for the future; build independence; get systems in place; develop organisation and prioritisation skills; refine note-taking skills and students are provided with mentoring opportunities. This term we have received bespoke support from Tracy Lightfoot from the DWP who has worked with students on refining their CVs, researching the pros and cons of deciding to follow an apprenticeship or a university education and this week we worked on group interview skills, modelled on those used by a large construction company Read More

    BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts students had their practical exam this week and it was awesome! Their task is to explore two contrasting play styles with their first performance being this Wednesday. They have been exploring naturalism and made their performance so believable. They have worked intensely for about a month to explore and understand Punk Rock by Simon Stephens through workshops and rehearsal techniques. Read More

    Five of our Year 11 students have successfully completed their Silver Crest Award and proudly received their certificates this week. This is a prestigious award that is designed to inspire young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers. Their project which was set by LM (who have responsibility for the northern section of HS2's phase one enabling work). They were asked to produce a tender for an Ecological Mitigation Site.     The sixth form Envision students have been working hard and making progress in planning their health campaigns. Perfectly Imperfect and Team Motiv8 have aired their campaign videos to promote a healthy self image and promote exercise. Well done the videos were professional and thought provoking.
