Message from the Headteacher

04 November 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

This week we celebrated our whole school Mass on the feast of All Saints on Tuesday. We are clearly outgrowing the sports hall where we used to have all pupils together so we held it over two services. Thank you to Father Isaac for saying Mass for years 7, 8 and 9 and to Father Joe for saying Mass to Years 10, 11 and Sixth Form. This was actually Father Joe’s last Mass with us before he moves onto pastures new. I would like to thank Father Joe for his valuable contributions to school over the last eight years and wish him all the very best in his new Parish.

Congratulations to the year 9 football team on two wins this week against Erdington Academy (7-4) and Greenwood Academy (2-1) with Hassan Guedda scoring an amazing seven goals! Well done Hassan!

We have two very special events next week. On Wednesday we are holding the first full Super Learning Day since Covid. This promises to be such a special day with some fabulous activities planned. Year 9 will be taking a trip to the London Science and Natural History museums. Year 10 will be undertaking the STEM stock market challenge whilst year 11 will be having their mock careers interviews. We also have year 12 visiting Coventry University for the day and year 8 will be having their annual spiritual life retreat.

On Thursday evening we are holding our 6th form open evening. This is always an opportunity to showcase our outstanding 6th form and it is highly recommended that all year 11 attend with their parents. There will be lots of Universities there as well as careers guidance and it promises to be a very special occasion.

As the winter months draw in can I encourage you to ensure your child has a black V neck jumper to wear in school. Hoodies and round neck jumpers are not permitted. You can purchase standard black V-neck jumpers here from Asda: https://direct.asda.com/george/school/jumpers-sweatshirts/black-vneck-school-jumper-2-pack/GEM704046-23534,default,pd.html

This weekend is bonfire weekend. Can I please urge you to speak to your children about keeping safe and being sensible during this time especially with the dark nights and fireworks. We have shown pupils a presentation during form time about keeping safe at this time so please do reinforce this at home.

I will leave you with this prayer that I have used in my assemblies this week:

Capture

Kind Regards

Mr A. Grant
