Message from the Headteacher

26 November 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent and we are very much gearing up for our Christmas celebrations. The Christmas tree is going up in the foyer and the nativity scene will be on display soon. Our Carol Service is going to be held at the Abbey church on Tuesday December 7th from 18:00 and all are welcome. It promises to be a special occasion. Please do read through the Catholic life section of this newsletter for more on Advent and also see how you can support with the charity work we are doing in school.

Next Friday is our feast day celebration as we celebrate the life of our patron St Edmund Campion. We will be holding a Mass at 11.30 and school will be closing early with pupils being dismissed after 12.00. (sometimes year 7 pupils ask if they are able to go back to their primary schools on this day and unfortunately the primary schools are often not able to accommodate this, so please dissuade your children from this.)

The year 11 and 13 mock exams begin in earnest next week and we wish all of our pupils the very best of luck. Next Friday is a reading day for year 11 and 6th form to support with their exams and these pupils are not required in school on this day. Please encourage your children to prepare thoroughly for these exams and remind them of all the resources provided and to use their retrieval practice techniques they have been taught over the years.

Thank you as always for your ongoing support and I will leave you with these words from St Teresa of Calcutta, especially as our assemblies this week from Mrs Fleming have been around Anti bullying.

“People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centred. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you. Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight. Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God. It was never between you and them anyway.”

Kind Regards

Mr A. Grant
