Sixth Form Update

24 September 2021

This is a busy half term in the Sixth Form: Year 12 are busy settling into the routines that will help them to be successful Sixth Formers and Year 13 are researching and preparing their university applications. There are many, many opportunities available to support students in the Sixth Form and we encourage students to take advantage of the hundreds of opportunities emailed out via the Sixth Form Weekly PPT

We wish the very best of luck to the students who left us in the Summer who will be starting their degree courses in the coming weeks. More than 80% of our leavers have gone to university! This year we have had students go to study Nursing, Computer Science, Accounting and Finance, Illustration, History & Politics, Pharmacy, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Science, Law, Quantity Surveying, Sport & Exercise Therapy, Veterinary Nursing as well as many others.

Students in Year 11 have already been informed, via their weekly PPT, of where to find the virtual open evening information about our Outstanding Sixth Form on our website.

Year 11 also know from the weekly PPT about our in-person open evening taking place on the 11th November. They are very welcome to come along and speak to us about their options, the wide array of courses we offer and how we can help them to be successful in the next step of their journey.

Students in Year 11 are welcome to ask their subject teachers any questions they have and can email Mrs Griffiths for support.

One of our Year 12 students, Victor, is very active in the wider community supporting Birmingham City Council and the Youth City Board and has a very exciting event coming up! The Queen’s Baton Relay takes place in October when Victor has been invited to go down to London as a flag bearer for the launch of the Commonwealth Games. He will walk down The Mall and meet the athletes at the Palace. It is a huge honour and we are very proud of him.

"Hi, I’m Victor and I will soon be going to Buckingham Palace for the launch of the Commonwealth Games. But how did I get involved with this? I was asked to participate in the Queen’s Baton Relay because I have been working in a variety of projects, some involving the Commonwealth Games. Some examples are that I am leading a group responsible for the distribution of £50k to young people suffering from physical and/or physiological needs in Birmingham funded by the Commonwealth Games. I work closely with the Director of Public Health in tackling key issues in the city. I chaired an interview panel for an Assistant Director of Public Health position and much more. Because of all the projects I am involved in, from representing young people in the decision-making process of Birmingham to influencing social and political change in the country, I was asked to participate in this incredible experience and it all started with as little as writing an email."
