Message from the Headteacher

10 September 2021

A very warm welcome back to everyone involved in our school community. I hope you have all had an enjoyable summer and it has been wonderful to welcome your children back to school. Thank you for sending them to school fully prepared and ready to learn. Already there is a very real sense of purpose in school and the atmosphere around school is very much one of learning and achievement.

A special welcome to all our new year 7 parents (and any new year 12 parents) and I hope you are all very proud of how your children have started their time here at St Edmund Campion School. Your children have started their time at St Edmund Campion extremely well and already we can see so much potential there!

This term promises to be a very exciting one with lots of events planned. As Covid restrictions are lifted we are very much hoping this is a return to some kind of normal and are in the process of putting a number of things together. We will still be monitoring the situation very carefully and are still encouraging pupils to sanitise or wash hands regularly. Whilst not compulsory, the wearing of face coverings is still encouraged. Thank you to everyone who consented to their children receiving the lateral flow tests at the start of the year. Please continue to take a lateral flow test twice a week every Sunday and Wednesday. Also, if your child is displaying any Covid 19 symptoms please keep them off school and arrange for a PCR test immediately.

The main event over the coming weeks is our open evening is on Tuesday 21st September and we are very much looking forward to welcoming any parents and pupils in years 5 and 6 to the evening. Doors open at 6.15 so please let anyone you know who is interested in coming along. They will be very welcome. We will also be holding an open morning on 23rd September for interested parents to come and see school life in action. Advance notice as well that our 6th form open evening will be held on 11th November so parents of year 11 please keep the date in your diary!

We will also be inviting parents of year 7 in to school for a welcome evening on September 30th and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support. If you have any queries you can direct them either to the enquiry@stedcamp.bham.sch.uk email address or contact your child’s Head of Year.

You will have heard the sad news regarding the death of John Farrell over the summer holiday. John was an assistant head here at Campion many years ago and was instrumental in developing our 6th form. John’s funeral is next week and we would ask you to keep his family and friends in your prayers. We will be sending out details regarding a fundraising page for Diabetes UK next week if you would like to contribute.

It is also the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center tomorrow and we keep all those who died on that terrible day as well as their families in our prayers.

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen’

I will leave you with a short prayer to celebrate the start of a new academic year:

Dear Lord

Thank you for the gift of education in every form. As our children prepare for a new academic year may confidence be their foundation, may grace be their guide, and may hope be their compass toward a bright future. We pray they would have eyes to see the needs of those around them and a heart to love well. May they face each day with positivity, knowing that no matter what comes their way they do not have to face it alone. Amen

Kind Regards

Mr A. Grant
