Message from the Headteacher

16 October 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

It has been wonderful this week to welcome back year 9 and those year 8s who have been self-isolating for the last couple of weeks. They have certainly come back full of purpose and it is great to see them back in the routines of hard work and excellent learning.

This week has been focussed on our mental health with lots of activities during form time. Looking after our mental health is so important especially during these times and I hope your children will have learnt a lot of different strategies they can use to support their well-being and mental health. Our safeguarding newsletter which goes out via Parentmail always has lots of ideas and directs you to different agencies and websites which are there for everyone.

Earlier today, I attended a meeting with our local MP Jack Dromey. He was full of praise for how all the Erdington schools have risen to the challenge of the current situation and how the Erdington community have come together to support and help each other. I can certainly echo that here at St Edmund Campion School. We are currently in the process of collecting food parcels for our local Bethany foodbank and these are going to be very well received in the local area. If you are a family who you feel would benefit from the Bethany foodbank, it is located at 51 South Road in Erdington.

This week, Pope Francis Beatified Carlo Acutis which is the final step before Sainthood. If you would like to find out more, this Youtube link gives further insight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuWYgXnfk0M

I’ll leave you with these words from Carlo Acutis:

‘If we get in front of the sun, we get sun tans . . . but when we get in front of Jesus in the Eucharist, we become Saints’

Kind Regards and God Bless

Mr A. Grant
