Key Stage 5 Debate Competition

13 March 2020

St Edmund Campion sixth formers took part in another Key Stage 5 debate against other schools in the Catholic Partnership on Wednesday 4th March. Mutinta, Nathanael, Aminata and Miriam took on the challenge of preparing and debating the proposition point of view that 'This house proposes that due to the spread of Coronavirus, Britain should close its borders indefinitely.' Their opponents were students from Bishop Walsh opposing the view. The students did not know what their debate would be until they arrived and had a short time to prepare their points. St Edmund Campion presented really well and debated with thorough, well-researched points. They achieved 41/50 and feedback from the judges was very positive. Some comments were 'both engaged well with the audience, good details of the virus and very confident', 'some very entertaining use of rhetoric', 'very well structured'.  Well done KS5 debaters you've made us proud.
