Message from the Headteacher

14 February 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

It has been a wonderful last week of a wonderful half term at St Edmund Campion School. There have been so many fantastic opportunities for our pupils who truly have grasped them with both hands.

I have to begin with our school production of High School Musical this week. A truly spectacular event. We wanted to give our younger pupils centre stage this year and they have truly stepped up and have shown Campion at its very best. Thank you to all of you who came and supported and sang along and cheered. I must thank the staff involved. Miss Maclellan as director has done an amazing job bringing it all together and keeping the children going especially during the difficult times. The musical arrangements have been superb and thanks to Mr Bishop and Mr Dawson for their work on this.  They have been ably supported by Lukas and Daud on guitar and Nana on the drums. It wouldn’t have happened without the sound and vision and huge thanks must go to Mr Jilali, Mr Boylan, Mr Horton and in particular Mr Reid. My biggest thank you goes to the children who have taken part. To see pupils in year 7, only 6 months into their time at Campion, in lead roles makes me very proud as headteacher. The hard work, effort, passion and commitment shown to putting on the very best show they can by everyone has been inspiring. There have been so many ups and downs and the manner in which they have tackled both is heart-warming. Many of these pupils won’t have done anything like singing and dancing in front of large audiences before and they are to be commended. It certainly has shown our Catholic life in action.

We also welcomed schools from all but one of the Birmingham Catholic schools to the Catholic Partnership Maths challenge on Wednesday. It was a competition of the finest mathematical minds within Catholic schools and congratulations to eventual winners St Paul’s Girls School. A wonderful occasion and huge thanks to the Maths department for organising this. You can read about it on our website here: https://www.stedcamp.bham.sch.uk/521/latest-news/post/157/year-7-maths-challenge

It is half term break next week and we welcome all pupils back on Tuesday 25th February. Year 11 and Post-16 students are required in school on Monday 24th February, in full school uniform and fully equipped. Staff also return on Monday 24th to undergo our statutory training around medical and health and safety requirements. We will also be receiving training on our new ICT packages. Please look out for something called classcharts next term which will allow parents and pupils to see how well pupils are progressing and if there are any concerns just at the click of a button. We will be sending out details around this after half term.

Advance notice also that it is year 10 parents’ evening on Thursday 27th February and we are looking forward to welcoming all year 10 parents to this important evening.

I hope you all enjoy a restful half term break with your families. Again, if you are buying uniform over the half term please check our uniform policy. It is important that all pupils return on the 25th February fully prepared and equipped for their learning and we greatly appreciate your efforts as parents in helping us with this. Year 11 parents, please check on your children to ensure they are working hard during the week! There aren’t too many school weeks left until the exam season begins.

Kind Regards

Mr. A Grant
