Sixth Form Political Forum

02 December 2019

It has been an exciting week for the Sixth Form and the Government and Politics department. On Wednesday 27th November, we held a political forum where we invited the candidates running to be MP in the Erdington constituency to take part in a debate. We had representatives from the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green and Brexit party all in attendance. Pupils from the Sixth Form and a number of Year 11 students asked many well thought out challenging questions which really showed that they had an excellent understanding of current affairs and debates within British politics. The candidates were asked a range of questions on topics including knife crime, climate change, Brexit, child poverty, tuition fees and votes for 16-year olds. The questions certainly provoked a lot of lively debate and undoubtedly pushed and challenged the candidates. All of the pupils were a credit to the school and had prepared extremely well for this forum. All of the candidates were very complimentary about the school and thanked the pupils for asking such pertinent questions. In the coming weeks we will be holding a school mock election and will be expecting a huge turnout after this event!
