27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“If only you had faith”

The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’  The Lord replies, ‘were your faith the size of a mustard seed you could say to this mulberry tree, “Be uprooted and planted in the sea,” and it would obey you.

This Sunday there seems to be an invitation from Jesus to take stock of the strength of our faith.  How easy it is to say I believe, but never do anything about developing that belief.   St Paul puts it beautifully in his letter to Timothy.  Since faith is a gift, Paul says, “You have been trusted to look after something precious; guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in you.”
