Over the last couple of weeks, we have had the pleasure of having Cath Muth and Keith from Birchfield Harriers in school leading some running sessions. Cath specialises in middle distance running and has led some challenging yet engaging sessions with some of our year 7, 8 and 9 girls. It is clear from the sessions that we have some exceptionally talented athletes. Cath and Keith were impressed with the potential that some of our girls displayed. As we move into the summer term we will be able to nurture this a little more with all of our students in our Physical Education lessons. Meanwhile, Cath has advertised Athletics sessions which are held at Alexander Stadium on Saturday mornings from 9am-10am for all students. I would encourage any budding athletes, boys or girls, to 'have a go' as this is not only a great opportunity to improve your running but also to improve your overall fitness and make new friends. Birchfield Harriers are holding some events that you may want your child to get involved in. They are holding a 'Cross Country' event on Wednesday 18th March at Perry Park - Birmingham Alexander Stadium. It is open to year 7 and 8 boys and girls. It is a 2km race starting at 4.35pm. Medals and prizes will be awarded to the top individuals in their age group. If you want your child to attend please confirm your attendance by email to Birchfield Harriers at b.harriers@btconnect.com stating your child’s name and school. In addition, they have an EASTER ATHLETICS SESSION on 9th April 1.30-4.30 at Alexander Stadium. The session will cost £10 where specialist coaches will be delivering sessions across a range of events giving the opportunity to try new events or improve performance. Athletes will be invited to choose two events from the following:

 Sprints, Hurdles, Middle Distance (800m and 1,500m), Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin and Shot.
