The Uprising Programme By Lauren Williams – Year 12

The Uprising Programme was an event advertised in our Sixth Form Weekly ppt.  It looked fantastic so I decided to apply.  The programme lasted for six weeks and we learned about a range of different film techniques and carried out on a range of social issues which then informed our short film focus.

We decided to make a short film about knife crime because of the rise of knife crime in Birmingham.  Over the holidays, we filmed the short film with a professional director to raise awareness of the consequences of knife crime. The final product will be premiered at the Mockingbird cinema in Birmingham.  From the programme I have learned new skills and I have met a lot of professional people who have really inspired me. I was also given the opportunity to go on a radio station and speak about the issue of knife crime which was another amazing opportunity.
