Catholic Life Of Our School

Third Sunday of Easter

Simon son of John, do you love me?

Three times in this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus asks Simon does he loves him.  Three times he says yes.  Then comes the command, order, invitation, ‘feed my sheep.’

Pope Francis leaves us in no doubt as to his expectations of all who say yes to Christ.  He calls for active participation.

“I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security.

Be open to the message of the Gospel this Sunday and allow it to change your life.

Pope Francis’ Intention for May.

The Church in Africa, a Seed of Unity
That the Church in Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for this continent.

Sri Lanka

Message from Archbishop Bernard Longley:

“My thoughts and prayers, and those of the Catholic community and all people of goodwill in the Archdiocese of Birmingham, are with the victims of the attacks in the churches and hotels in Sri Lanka today (Easter Sunday).

“The fact that it happened during prayer on Easter morning makes it all the worse.

“But our faith in the Risen Lord tells us that nothing, not evil nor death itself, can overcome the power of the resurrection.

“I commend all those who have died to the loving mercy of God and those injured or bereaved to the protection of Mary, our Mother, and a witness to the Resurrection.”

Mary Our Mother

May is the month of Our Lady.  In school each day during this month we will be reciting the rosary each morning in our school chapel.  More than 60 students at a time will have the opportunity to contemplate the mysteries of the Holy Rosary and offer prayers for the pope’s intentions during May.  During this month you might think about saying the Angelus again.  It takes no more than a minute to contemplate the mystery of the Incarnation; the word made flesh.

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary.
V. And the Word was made flesh. R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary.
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray; Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ, thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by his Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of his Resurrection. Through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.
