Campion Mass 2018

Father Eddie Clare celebrated our annual St Edmund Campion Feast Day mass last Friday.  It was a most prayerful time with over 1,000 staff and students present in the Sports Hall.  Mr Morris read for us the ‘Campion Bragge,’ written by Edmund Campion before returning to England form Germany.  It was his calling card to the Nation and his willingness to risk all for the spread of the Gospel.  St Edmund Campion said, “My charge is, of free cost to preach the Gospel, to minister Sacraments, to instruct the simple, to reform sinners, to confute error – in brief, to cry alarm spiritual against foul vice and proud ignorance, wherewith many of my dear countrymen were abused.”

As Campionites we are called to continue this ministry, we pray not to the point of death; but to the point of discomfort to ourselves when what we preach is the Truth. Our students participated beautifully in this celebration.  Prayers were read in at least eight different languages reflecting the diversity of our student population.

We brought the gifts of our work and achievement to the altar with the bread and wine.  Our choir lead the singing with many form the congregation joining in.  At the end of mass, Father Eddie was visibly moved by the prayerful devotion and respect shown by all.  In the words of the opening hymn, in truth ‘Our God is Here.’

The front cover of our booklet was drawn by Olivia Brim-McArthur Year 8.  It is beautiful.
