My Sixth Form Work Experience

My journey with Ernst & Young (EY) began in January of this year, when Mrs Quoroll forwarded an email to Sixth Form about the 3 weeks paid work experience, known as “Smart Futures”, that they were offering in the Summer. After applying, I went through a gruelling interview process with a telephone interview, a skype interview and a lengthy background check. I then finally got the place on the programme!

For 3 weeks during my summer, I had the opportunity to enhance my presentation skills by pitching ideas and solutions to Directors within the company, which saw my confidence increase. Teamwork was also vital as we worked with different people every day, so it was essential to get along. I was also given the chance to complete a CMI Level 2 Qualification in Team Leadership, and it’s something that makes me stand out from my peers.

From the Birmingham Smart Futures programme that comprised of 20 students, I was voted ‘Student of the Programme’ by my peers and out of the 1200 students that participated in England, I was among 6 students that were shortlisted for ‘Young Employee of the Year’. This saw me attend an Awards Ceremony on Monday at their headquarters in London and gave me the chance to network. In the future, if I do decide to work at EY, the programme I’ve completed will give me an advantage over others and I’m very grateful to have worked and excelled in a company such as EY.
